    /goz'maks/ [contraction of `Gosling EMACS'] n. The first EMACS-in-C implementation, predating but now largely eclipsed by GNUMACS. Originally freeware; a commercial version is now modestly popular as `UniPress EMACS'. The author (James Gosling) went on to invent NeWS.
